They played their ever expanding game but... FC Gifu was forced to digest the depth of ‘Tsunami soccer’.
“This is a game that we really wanted to win” explained Yokohama FC Manager Satoshi Tsunami. After they suffered their first loss in the last round, Yokohama was determined to avoid their second loss in a row this week. The tenacity of this victory was shown in the last moments of the game.
If you want to illustrate Tsunami’s soccer, it’s like trying to grasp onto water. There are no concrete patterns or tactics and the players are changed into flexible positions where they themselves can set the tempo of the game. In other words, there’s no complete plan, just a flexible one that says ‘if this is happening now, then we should do this’. At first glance this looks like an unclear, boring kind of plan, but in reality, on the pitch there are various aims and precautionary measures put in place. If you don’t recognize these, then in a second you will be pulled into Yokohama FC’s net, and by the time you’ve realized it, it will already be too late.
Today’s Gifu was surely pulled into this net. From the start it was Gifu who set the pace of the game. Yokohama FC’s Atsuhiro Miura had started at Defending-midfield for the first time this season, pushing Elizeu into Centre-back. Gifu noticed the lack of cohesion between both centre-backs Kosuke Yatsuda and Elizeu, and started to create chances. They pushed their defense and middle lines up, and with speed pushed the ball that they’d dispossessed out to the wings. On the wings Takeshi Umeda and Kazumasa Takagi connected well with Forwards Masamoto Katayama and Atsushi Katagiri and they started to gain some superiority over Yokohama. In the 20th minute, Katayma upon receiving a throw in ball from the left side fainted to pass out but then cut-in to the penalty box in a split-second. The Yokohama defense, was caught unaware and Katayama fired in the first goal of the game.
Until this time the game had been played at Gifu’s pace. However little by little, the essence of ‘Tsunami soccer’ began to show within the Yokohama team. From the start the team had been in a 4-4-2 formation but midway through the half Kazuyoshi Miura moved back from the right side to centre, Shingo Nejime moved to the right side and Atsuhiro Miura and Tomoyoshi Ono switched positions, to change the flow in the midfield. Gifu had focused their defense on stopping key playmaker Atsuhiro Miura in the midfield, but as he had changed positions, confusion in marking him began to arise in the Gifu camp who hadn’t noticed this change in position. Surely this was Yokohama’s plan. “Gifu was pressing on Atsuhiro Miura so this left room for the rest of the team to build up momentum” said DF Yatsuda. Gifu’s once beautiful two line formation began to look crooked and as the space up the middle of the field increased, Yokohama started to fly through. After 25 minutes the pace had changed to Yokohama’s. As Gifu’s efforts to press Yokohama collapsed, the team balance began to crumble unknowingly. In the 44th minute Yokohama caught up to Gifu as an Ono header from an Anderson right cross rebounded off the post, onto Gifu’s Kazunori Kan and into the goal, for an own-goal. It might have looked like a lucky goal, but it was a result of space that had been created by Ono in front of the goal.
While the score was still 1-1 in the second half, Gifu exploited a chink in Yokohama’s armor, as Koji Yoshimura headed in a Shinya Nasu long throw-in to net what looked like it could be the game winning goal in the 60th minute. But, falling back into Yokohama’s net, Gifu couldn’t put away Yokohama as they have regularly done to their other opponents.
In one swoop, after conceding the goal, Tsunami replaced Ono with Kunihiko Takizawa in the 60th minute, Hiroaki Namba with Cho Young Cheol in the 61st and Kazuyoshi Miura with Tomoki Ikemoto in the 64th minute. This strong plan then bore it’s fruit. The three introduced players immediately made the midfield more fluid and Gifu’s defense became irregular. As Gifu’s press began to come unstuck, the effects of running up and down the field because of this began to wear on the players who slowed down, which in turn changed the defensive block formation in the midfield and in turn created large amounts of space up the middle of the field which Yokohama began to utilize. Then in the 81st minute there was Atsuhiro Miura’s strong middle shoot, which although outdone by the fine save from Gifu keeper Masatoshi Mizutani, was followed by a Yatsuda goal from the following corner-kick. The momentum had shifted back to Yokohama. Yokohama rode their wave of attack, and Gifu, without thinking about defending a draw began to counter-attack for the winning goal. However in injury-time it was Yokohama who came through after Cho yet again made a break up the midfield, sent a pass to the opposite side to Anderson who then booted in a hearty right footer in what was a priceless knockout blow.
For Yokohama it was a great come-from-behind victory, but for Gifu there was the feeling that it was three points that they should have won but had lost. This defeat however was an inevitable defeat because Gifu had fallen into Yokohama’s trap. If they had had the time to look at what was happening and to change their defense it would have been great but by staying at the same fixed pattern throughout the game they paid the consequences.
Certainly, what unfolded on the field was not all bad for Gifu. They played to their usual clearly defined plan and played good quality active soccer. However the opposition was at fault. Yokohama’s hard to grip soccer was not compatible with Gifu. This is the biggest reason for their defeat. How will Yokohama build up their soccer from now? For this writer in charge of FC Gifu, after watching this match I look forward with excitement to ‘Tsunami soccer’ from now on.

【J2：第8節 岐阜 vs 横浜FC】レポート：普段通りのサッカーを展開したが…奥深い都並サッカーに飲み込まれた岐阜 [ J's GOAL ]
「今日はどうしても勝ちたかった試合」と都並監督が語ったように、前節に今季初黒星を喫したために、横浜FCにとっては何としても連敗は避けなければいけない試合だった。この勝利への執念が、この試合を最後の最後で動かすこととなった。
都並監督のサッカーを例えるなら、つかみどころのない液体のようなサッカーと言うべきか。具体的な戦術やパターンはなく、選手が試合の中でフレキシブルにポジションを変化させ、リズムを自らの手で作り上げていくサッカーと受け取れる。つまり、そこには完成形はなく、「今この状況であったら、こうすべき」と 常に流れの中で変化に富んでいる。一見は狙いがはっきりしないつまらないサッカーに見えるが、実はピッチ上では狙いを持った様々な予防線が張り巡らされている。これに気付かないでいると、たちまち横浜FCの網に引っかかり、気付いたときには時既に遅しとなる。
今日の岐阜はまさにそうだった。立ち上がりは先手を仕掛ける岐阜がペースを握った。今季初めてスタートから三浦淳をボランチに、エリゼウをセンターバックに置いてきた横浜FCに対し、岐阜はエリゼウと八田の両センターバックの連携不足を付いて、チャンスを作り出す。DFラインと中盤のラインの2ラインを高 い位置まで押し上げ、奪ったボールを素早くサイドへ展開。サイドでは梅田、高木と片桐、片山の2トップがうまく絡んで、数的優位を作り出し、横浜FCを押 し込んでいった。20分には、左サイドからのスローインを受けた片山が、リターンすると見せかけて一気にペナルティエリア内に切れ込んでいく。完全に面を食らった横浜FC守備陣の対応が遅れるのを尻目に、片山はそのまま深く切れ込んで先制弾を叩き込んだ。
ここまでは岐阜の流れだった。しかし、ここからじわじわと都並サッカーの真髄が顔を出してくる。スタートは【4-4-2】のボックスだったが、途中から右サイドの三浦知がトップ下の位置に入り、根占が右サイドに上がったり、三浦淳と小野のポジションが入れ替わったり、中盤が流動的に変化していく。岐阜は守 備の約束事として、中盤のキーマンである三浦淳に必ず一枚は当たるようにしていた。しかし、その三浦淳のポジションが変化していくのだから、気付かないうちにマークが重なってしまうシーンが増えていく。横浜FCの狙いはまさしくそこだった。「淳さんにプレスが集中していくので、チーム全体のビルドアップが出来た」とDF八田が語ったように、岐阜は綺麗な2ラインを形成していた序盤と違ってラインに歪が生まれ、横浜FCは増えた中盤のスペースに次々と選手が 飛び込んでいく。25分過ぎには試合は横浜FCペースに変わっていった。岐阜にとってはプレスを掛けているはずなのに掛からないという状況に陥り、知らず 知らずのうちにバランスを崩していく。44分には右に流れたアンデルソンのクロスに飛び込んだ小野のヘッドが、バーに当たって跳ね返ったボールが岐阜の MF菅に当たり、オウンゴールとなって横浜FCが追いつく。このゴールは一見ラッキーに見えるが、ボランチにいた小野がゴール前に出来たスペースに飛び込んだからこそ生まれたものであった。
1-1で迎えた後半、60分に岐阜は横浜FCの一瞬の隙を突いて、奈須のロングスローから吉村が勝ち越し弾を挙げるが、完全に横浜FCの網に掛かった状態では、いつもの相手をいなすサッカーを展開できなかった。失点後、都並監督は60分に小野に代え滝澤を、61分に難波に代えチョ・ヨンチョルを、64分に三浦知に代え池元を投入し、一気に交代枠を使い切って勝負 に出る。この強気の策が実を結んだ。滝澤、チョ、池元が流動的だった中盤をさらに流動的にし、より岐阜の守備の歪を生み出していった。プレスがなかなかはまらず、長い距離を走らされるようになった岐阜は、徐々に足が止まり出し、中央でのブロック形成へ守備方法を転化していったため、両サイドに広大なスペー スが生まれ、そこを横浜FCに有効活用されてしまう。すると81分、三浦淳の強烈ミドルシュートはGK水谷のファインセーブで凌いだが、そこからのCKを八田に押し込まれ、試合は振り出しに戻る。勢いに乗っ た横浜FCは、守りに入らずに勝ち越し弾を狙いに来た岐阜に対し、カウンターの準備を進めていく。そしてロスタイム、ピンチを凌ぐと、一気にカウンターを仕掛け、中央のチョが左サイドのスペースに送ったスルーパスに反応したアンデルソンが、豪快に右足を振り抜き、値千金の決勝弾を叩き込んだ。
鮮やかな逆転勝ちを収めた横浜FCに対し、岐阜からしてみれば『勝てる試合を落とした』という感情が残る試合だった。しかし、この敗戦は必然の敗戦だった。なぜならば、横浜FCが敷いた予防線に引っかかり、最後まで絡まったままで行ってしまった。もし早く手を打つことが出来たならば、一度守備をリトリートに切り替えて、様子を見る時間を作っても良かった。一定のリズムで試合を進めてしまった代償は大きかった。確かに岐阜がピッチ上で繰り広げたサッカーは決して悪くはなかった。いつもの岐阜の狙いがはっきりとした質の高いアクティブなサッカーは出来た。しかし、相手が悪かった。横浜FCのつかみどころのないサッカーをいなすだけの柔軟性を出せなかった。これがこの試合の最大の敗因であろう。横浜FCのサッカーはこれからどう作り上げられていくのか。岐阜を担当している筆者でも、都並サッカーの今後に大きな興味を持った一戦であった。

R2 FC Gifu 0 - 1 Vegalta Sendai
Sendai gain their first win of the season while Gifu fail to take home their commemorative first home victory.
Gifu was blessed with fine spring weather for the historical day. Outside the main stand of Nagara Stadium, people were jammed into the rows of stalls that were selling local specialties before the game. Supporters from the popular opposition team Sendai, clad in their blue and gold uniforms and t-shirts, joined in the fun whilst tasting the local delights.
The scene before the game was like one out of an old folk tale, but as soon as kick-off drew near, everyone changed their focus and hit battle mode. From behind the goals to the back stands an echo rang around the stadium as the supporters began to release their battle cries.
The ball was finally kicked off in the inaugural first-ever J2 game in Nagara Stadium, Gifu . From the start, Sendai began trying to create some rhythm by using long passes aimed at Forward Takayuki Nakahara, therefore getting through what they anticipated would be a high line of defense in the back for Gifu.
But Gifu tackled these long balls head on without flinching, using Takayuki Komine and Shinya Kawashima to control the defensive line. With Nakahara unable to run around freely, Gifu’s Ryuuji Kitamura and Kazunori Kan teamed up, gathered loose ball and began to display some quick passing and nifty attack. But on this day, their Side-back’s did not function like they should have. With Left side-back Shinya Nasu out due to injury, last weeks Right side-back Masamichi Yamada was switched to the left, and Yasuhiro Yoshida was moved to the right. But with the combination of unfamiliar positions, as well as Yoshimura failing to pick up the J2 pace, Sendai’s attacking lifeline of Ryang Yong Gi and Kunimitsu Sekiguchi began to play with the Gifu defense showing their superior skills and speed in the position. This showed in the 23rd minute when Yamada scored an own-goal after trying to clear a centre kick from Yong Gi who had in turn received a pass from Nakahara down the right wing. It was this regrettable goal that opened the scoring for the game.
It was an own-goal, but it was also the result of relentless attack through the defensive hole down the side of the field. Yong Gi and Sekiguchi plugged away down this hole for the rest of the half, but resolute defense, especially by Goalkeeper Suguru Hino, left the score at 1-0 at the break.
In the second half Sendai once again began using long passes to Nakahara to try and add a further goal to their tally. However whether it was the use of the repetitive pattern of Yong Gi and Sekiguchi attacking down the flanks, or the fact that Gifu’s defense gradually began to respond little by little, Sendai were restrained by Gifu. The fact that Sendai’s steady attack was unable to crack the tough Gifu defense began to interest Gifu’s Manager, Hideki Matsunaga. In the 62nd minute he moved Forward Atsushi Katagiri to the left side and released pocket rocket Kang Hyo Li onto the field for his debut match. Gifu’s attack steadily began to take shape, as Katagiri provided a vital link to the driving force up front of Hyo Li and Masato Katayama. However Gifu were unable to produce the kind of finish which they had displayed in the final stages of their last game against Kofu, due largely to the fact that the midfield problem had not been fixed, and in the end time ran out. Sendai produced their first win of the season, while Gifu’s first victory in the J2 was put back on ice.
After the game, Sendai Manager Makoto Teguramori bought a few laughs in the interview room when he mentioned that “We won without anyone scoring!”, but the fact of the matter was, that this was not just a mere joke. On the day, Sendai attacked down the flanks, but lacked ideas from there. They tried simple attack down the length of the field, but forward Yuki Nakashima’s timing was out and passes were missed. Even when he stuck to the front line, he couldn’t follow up his attack, and lacked finishing. Last season, Lopes (now Yokohama F Marinos) had the ability to attack from beginning to end, and had a direct connection with Nakashima and Hiroki Bandai (Jubilo Iwata), but this season a player of that ability hasn’t emerged yet. As long as they don’t resolve this problem, the long stretch to the bitter end of the J2 will remain one of uneasiness.
On the other hand, Gifu also has the identical problems. It’s only their first season in the J2 but their defense and attack have formed clear shape. The thing is, can they smoothly add on Matsunaga’s idea of ‘automatically finishing off the movement’? If they can’t, along with Sendai, both teams will see the games piling up on each other without result. Both teams leave the game with the same problems. Which team will be able to take the bull by the horns and solve this problem first? That is the point to which we should pay attention.
So this closes the curtain on Gifu’s first home game in the J2. The first victory hasn’t come yet, but Gifu has certainly arrived in the J arena. However, in order for the crowd of 5,023 not to be the biggest in attendance for the season, the club must work hard and take plenty of interest in the surrounding community. The reason for this is that this mutual effort between the club and the people of Gifu will gradually accumulate, making the team stronger and in the end giving real significance and identity to the club and Gifu. Today Gifu did not make that step up, but the long road for Gifu has only just begun.

【J2：第2節 岐阜 vs 仙台】レポート：岐阜、記念すべきホーム開幕戦を勝利で飾れず。仙台が今季初勝利を挙げる。
岐阜にとって歴史的な日は、春の到来を感じるほどの晴天に恵まれた。長良川球技場のメインスタンド外のコンコースでは、地元の名産品のお店がずらりと軒を並べ、試合前から多くの人でごったがえした。対戦相手が人気のある仙台とあって、仙台のユニフォームやTシャツを身に纏った多くのサポーターも、この活気に加わって、岐阜名物に舌鼓を打った。試合前はどこか牧歌的でほんわかした雰囲気だったが、キックオフが直前に迫ると、一気に戦闘モードに。共にゴール裏バックスタンドよりのコーナーに陣取ったサポーターから大きな声援がこだました。
いよいよホーム開幕戦がキックオフ。立ち上がりは岐阜が高いラインをキープしてくることを想定していた仙台が、前線の中原貴之をターゲットにしたロングボールを軸にリズムを作り出そうとする。対する岐阜は相手のロングボールにひるむことなく、小峯隆幸と川島眞也が強気のラインコントロールで、真っ向から対抗。中原に自由を与えず、セカンドボールは菅和範と北村隆二のダブルボランチと連動してセカンドボールを拾って、素早く攻撃に繋げる本来のサッカーを展開した。しかし、この日の岐阜は両SBが 思うように機能しなかった。左SBの奈須伸也が怪我で出場を回避し、本来はCBとボランチで、甲府戦では右SBだった山田正道が左へ入り、吉村光示が右 SBに入ったが、慣れないポジションと、吉村の調子が上がりきっていないこともあり、仙台の攻撃の生命線である梁勇基、関口訓充の両サイドアタッカーの個人技とスピードに翻弄されてしまった。すると23分、中原からのパスを右サイドで受けた梁のセンタリングをクリアしようとした山田のヘッドが、そのままゴールに入り、痛恨のオウンゴールで先制点を献上してしまう。
失点はオウンゴールであったが、サイドのほころびを突かれた結果の失点であった。その後も関口や梁にサイドをえぐられ、ピンチを招くも、GK日野優を軸に耐え抜いて、前半を1－0で折り返した。
後半も仙台は中原をターゲットにしたロングボールを軸に、追加点を狙いに来た。前半同様に関口、梁がサイドを突破するが、仙台の攻撃がワンパターンになってきたせいか、徐々に岐阜の守備陣が対応しやすくなり、抑えるポイントが絞れるようになった。仙台が要所をしっかりと押さえる岐阜の堅い守備をこじ開けきれないでいると、ここを勝負どころと見た松永監督が動いた。FW片桐淳至を左サイドにシフト し、64分にはスピードが売りで前に仕掛けることが出来るFW姜曉一を投入。片桐が2列目に下がりボールを中継することで、ボランチのビルドアップの時間と、姜、片山の前への推進力を引き出し、徐々に岐阜の攻撃が形作られていった。だが、サイドのバランスを完全に修正するまでには至らず、甲府戦の終盤では解消出来ていたFWと中盤の距離の広がりが解消出来ないまま、時間が過ぎていき、そのままタイムアップ。岐阜の初勝利はお預けとなり、仙台が初勝利を掴んだ。
試合後、仙台・手倉森誠監督は「選手には『自分の初勝利で誰もゴール決めていないぞ』と言いました」と語り、会見場に笑いを誘ったが、決して単なるジョークではなかった。この日の仙台はサイドを突破できても、そこからのアイデアが乏しく、縦へのシンプルな攻撃においても、FW中島裕希が抜群のタイミングで飛び出してもパスが来なかったり、彼が前線で粘ってキープしても、フォローがなかったり、フィニッシュに繋がるまでのオートマチズムが足りなかった。昨年 はロペスというフィニッシュまでに繋げる潤滑油的な選手がいたため、萬代宏樹（現磐田）と中島がゴールに直結するプレーが出来たが、今季はいまだその役割を果たす選手が出てきていない。ここを解消しない限り、長丁場のJ2を戦い抜くには不安要素が多くなってしまうだろう。
一方の岐阜も同様の悩みを抱えている。J2初参戦といえど、明確な狙いを持った守備の形、攻撃の形は出来ている。あとは松永監督の言う「フィニッシュまでの自動化」がスムーズに出来るか。まさに仙台同様、サイドを崩したり、相手のマークの歪を生み出した後以降の潤滑油となるプレーが足りないだけに、試合を 重ねていくごとにプレーの精度を積み上げていくしかない。共に課題が残った一戦。この共通する課題をどちらが先に解消する糸口を掴むことができるのか。ここに注目していきたい。
かくして岐阜のホーム開幕戦は幕を閉じた。初勝利こそお預けとなったが、確かに岐阜にJがやってきた。この歴史的瞬間に5,023人の観衆が立ち会った が、この数字がシーズン最高の観客数にならないように、クラブも努力しなければいけないし、周りももっと興味を持って欲しい。こうした相互努力の一つ一つの積み重ねが、チームを強くし、やがて本当の意味で岐阜に根付いたクラブになっていくのだから。今日はその一歩を踏み出したに過ぎない。岐阜の長い道のり はまだ始まったばかりだ。

The reason for this is that this mutual effort between the club and the people of Gifu will gradually accumulate, making the team stronger and in the end giving real significance and identity to the club and Gifu. Today Gifu did not make that step up, but the long road for Gifu has only just begun.

【J2：第2節 岐阜 vs 仙台】レポート：岐阜、記念すべきホーム開幕戦を勝利で飾れず。仙台が今季初勝利を挙げる。
岐阜にとって歴史的な日は、春の到来を感じるほどの晴天に恵まれた。長良川球技場のメインスタンド外のコンコースでは、地元の名産品のお店がずらりと軒を並べ、試合前から多くの人でごったがえした。対戦相手が人気のある仙台とあって、仙台のユニフォームやTシャツを身に纏った多くのサポーターも、この活気に加わって、岐阜名物に舌鼓を打った。試合前はどこか牧歌的でほんわかした雰囲気だったが、キックオフが直前に迫ると、一気に戦闘モードに。共にゴール裏バックスタンドよりのコーナーに陣取ったサポーターから大きな声援がこだました。
いよいよホーム開幕戦がキックオフ。立ち上がりは岐阜が高いラインをキープしてくることを想定していた仙台が、前線の中原貴之をターゲットにしたロングボールを軸にリズムを作り出そうとする。対する岐阜は相手のロングボールにひるむことなく、小峯隆幸と川島眞也が強気のラインコントロールで、真っ向から対抗。中原に自由を与えず、セカンドボールは菅和範と北村隆二のダブルボランチと連動してセカンドボールを拾って、素早く攻撃に繋げる本来のサッカーを展開した。しかし、この日の岐阜は両SBが 思うように機能しなかった。左SBの奈須伸也が怪我で出場を回避し、本来はCBとボランチで、甲府戦では右SBだった山田正道が左へ入り、吉村光示が右 SBに入ったが、慣れないポジションと、吉村の調子が上がりきっていないこともあり、仙台の攻撃の生命線である梁勇基、関口訓充の両サイドアタッカーの個人技とスピードに翻弄されてしまった。すると23分、中原からのパスを右サイドで受けた梁のセンタリングをクリアしようとした山田のヘッドが、そのままゴールに入り、痛恨のオウンゴールで先制点を献上してしまう。
失点はオウンゴールであったが、サイドのほころびを突かれた結果の失点であった。その後も関口や梁にサイドをえぐられ、ピンチを招くも、GK日野優を軸に耐え抜いて、前半を1－0で折り返した。
後半も仙台は中原をターゲットにしたロングボールを軸に、追加点を狙いに来た。前半同様に関口、梁がサイドを突破するが、仙台の攻撃がワンパターンになってきたせいか、徐々に岐阜の守備陣が対応しやすくなり、抑えるポイントが絞れるようになった。仙台が要所をしっかりと押さえる岐阜の堅い守備をこじ開けきれないでいると、ここを勝負どころと見た松永監督が動いた。FW片桐淳至を左サイドにシフト し、64分にはスピードが売りで前に仕掛けることが出来るFW姜曉一を投入。片桐が2列目に下がりボールを中継することで、ボランチのビルドアップの時間と、姜、片山の前への推進力を引き出し、徐々に岐阜の攻撃が形作られていった。だが、サイドのバランスを完全に修正するまでには至らず、甲府戦の終盤では解消出来ていたFWと中盤の距離の広がりが解消出来ないまま、時間が過ぎていき、そのままタイムアップ。岐阜の初勝利はお預けとなり、仙台が初勝利を掴んだ。
試合後、仙台・手倉森誠監督は「選手には『自分の初勝利で誰もゴール決めていないぞ』と言いました」と語り、会見場に笑いを誘ったが、決して単なるジョークではなかった。この日の仙台はサイドを突破できても、そこからのアイデアが乏しく、縦へのシンプルな攻撃においても、FW中島裕希が抜群のタイミングで飛び出してもパスが来なかったり、彼が前線で粘ってキープしても、フォローがなかったり、フィニッシュに繋がるまでのオートマチズムが足りなかった。昨年 はロペスというフィニッシュまでに繋げる潤滑油的な選手がいたため、萬代宏樹（現磐田）と中島がゴールに直結するプレーが出来たが、今季はいまだその役割を果たす選手が出てきていない。ここを解消しない限り、長丁場のJ2を戦い抜くには不安要素が多くなってしまうだろう。
一方の岐阜も同様の悩みを抱えている。J2初参戦といえど、明確な狙いを持った守備の形、攻撃の形は出来ている。あとは松永監督の言う「フィニッシュまでの自動化」がスムーズに出来るか。まさに仙台同様、サイドを崩したり、相手のマークの歪を生み出した後以降の潤滑油となるプレーが足りないだけに、試合を 重ねていくごとにプレーの精度を積み上げていくしかない。共に課題が残った一戦。この共通する課題をどちらが先に解消する糸口を掴むことができるのか。ここに注目していきたい。
かくして岐阜のホーム開幕戦は幕を閉じた。初勝利こそお預けとなったが、確かに岐阜にJがやってきた。この歴史的瞬間に5,023人の観衆が立ち会った が、この数字がシーズン最高の観客数にならないように、クラブも努力しなければいけないし、周りももっと興味を持って欲しい。こうした相互努力の一つ一つの積み重ねが、チームを強くし、やがて本当の意味で岐阜に根付いたクラブになっていくのだから。今日はその一歩を踏み出したに過ぎない。岐阜の長い道のり はまだ始まったばかりだ。

R1 FC Gifu 1 - 1 Ventforet Kofu
Kofu hands J2 rookies Gifu one precious point, and gets a roasting for it.
It was as if they hadn’t put their feet firmly on the ground yet. It was a different feeling to the time under the Taiboku administration in J2, different to their first year in the J1, and different to the final stages of last year when Kofu knew that demotion was already assured. I was looking forward to the opening game. There wasn’t a sense of genuine hope or uneasiness but instead a feeling of confidence and arrogance floating around on the faces in the crowd. From behind me in the special seating I heard somebody say “See, even though they’ve got the ball, they can’t even connect a pass. It’s like watching high school soccer”. Well, as it was, Gifu didn’t exactly give the impression that they could play “good soccer” straight after the opening kick-off. I was easily lured into the false sense of believing that Kofu was the better side without a doubt.
But after 15 minutes my pride began to turn to humbleness as I realized that for all the attacking ball that Kofu had, they hadn’t produced any good scoring chances. It wasn’t that Gifu was good, but the fact that Kofu hadn’t been able to live up to my expectations and that started to get me down. I couldn’t see any improvements in a quarter of the tasks that they had been set for 2008. They had made dramatic improvements during their training camps but I felt that during the practice match with Chiba, if they didn’t continue improving then it would all go to waste. However, this was just something that I was hoping for, and I didn’t really think that it would matter much in the lower levels of the J2 world. I recalled a comment from Shimizu S Pulse scout Yamazaki who during the J-step camp who said “It doesn’t matter how many years of top-level experience you’ve had, until you start, you don’t know what’s going to happen). The pressures on battling for the playing spots for practice matches, the pressures brought on by battling for J1 promotion, these are all completely irrelevant. At least when restricted to the opening game.
When Toshiaki Haji scored his header in the 38th minute from a corner kick, I thought to myself “How’s it going to end up today I wonder” as the crowd began to get excited. I began to feel a little pride after seeing the vigor involved in creating the goal. In the beginning of the second half, I even teased myself with the thought that Yohei Onishi still couldn't get rid of his curse of not being able to score in the J-league, after he had missed a great scoring chance after receiving a neat through-pass from Kentaro hayashi. But in the 66th minute when Gifu Forward Hiromi Kojima scored his goal due to a Kofu defensive passing mistake, a feeling of nervousness and irritation began to rage inside me. This kind of battle was not what Kofu had in mind for today, Kofu should be fighting fierce battles later on in the season. But as this game proved, the J2 is not a competition where you can simply come in on the day and go home with three points. I don’t know if it will always be like this, but there is definitely enough evidence to suggest that it just might.
The moment the score moved to 1-1, the crowd started to boo loudly. This revealed the stance of the supporters on their expectations for Kofu this year, for even in the relegation match last year there was no booing. This is meant to be the season where Kofu picks up their first championship title (J2). The biggest crowd in the opening matches of the 2008 J2 (13,211) were all thinking that. The players themselves probably also felt it, but we wanted to see positive, attacking soccer. After two years in the J1, maybe the players lost their values of what is meant to be “good soccer”. I don’t intend to judge everything on just one game, but at the end of the day, there were several players lacking the energy to be on the field. This isn’t pessimism, but instead, disappointment. The light feeling from being in a new division had disappeared after the game. I hope that the booing will flick the switch for positive play in next weeks game against Tokushima. To rise up and win in the J2, after only improving a little on last year isn’t easy, but for Kofu it’s all about pride. Because that’s what we love about Kofu, if they fight frantically to the death, we will applaud them. If they can do that, then they will begin to rise up the table. Realizing this, I’m beginning to look forward to round 2 next week.

フワフワと地に足が着いていない気分だった。第2次大木政権のJ2時代とも、J1元年とも、J2降格を意識した昨年の終盤とも違う気分。開幕を楽しみにし ていたが、実際にその日を迎えると純粋な期待でも純粋な不安ではない、自信と傲慢の間に漂っているような感情がチラチラと顔を出してきた。記者席の後ろの SS席からは「ほら、ボールを持っても繋げない。高校サッカーみたいだな」という声が聞こえてくる。確かに、キックオフ直後の岐阜のサッカーに対して「いいサッカー」という印象は持たなかった。甲府の方が確実に上だという傲慢な気分に浸りたい誘惑がフワフワと近寄ってきた。
しかし、15分もすればその傲慢君は、攻め込んでいる割にはいい形のシュート数が少ない現実に謙虚という姿勢を学び始める。岐阜がいいのではなく、予定（希望）していたほどのサッカーを甲府が出来なかったからだ。1/4の課題は目に見えて改善されていなかった。ただ、それはキャンプ期間だけで劇的に改善される課題ではなく、やり続けないと駄目な課題であることは千葉とのトレーニングマッチで感じていた。しかし、それがJ2の世界ではどうなるのかは2年間 のブランクが都合よく邪魔をして、希望だけを育てていたのかもしれない。Jステップキャンプを見に来ていた山崎（現・清水スカウト）は「何年（プロを）経験しても、始まってみないと判らないですからね」と言っていたことを思い出した。レギュラーやベンチ入りをかけて戦うトレーニングマッチとJ1昇格を賭け て戦う本番のプレッシャーは別物だった。少なくとも開幕戦に限っては。
38分にコーナーキックから羽地登志晃の先制ヘディングシュートが決まったときは小瀬も沸いたし、「どうだね」という気分になった。ゴールが生み出す活力は素晴らしく、謙虚に傲慢になることが出来た。後半の立ち上がりも、林健太郎のスルーパスに反応した大西容平のシュートに「（Jリーグ）ノーゴールの呪いまだ解けず」と心の中で茶々を入れる余裕もあった。しかし、66分にDFラインのパスミスから岐阜の小島宏美に同点ゴールを許すと、イライラという感情がチャンスを掴んで蔓延る。スリーラインが連動できず、足が止まった甲府は岐阜の能力を引き出してしまう。岐阜は置かれた現状でやれることをしっかりやって いるチームだった。甲府とは違う意味の厳しい戦いをこれからも強いられるだろうが、J2リーグの草刈場に簡単になるようなチームではないことをデビュー戦 で証明しようとした。本当にそうなれるかどうかは判らないが、その可能性を充分に持っていることだけは確かだ。

JsGoal - The Kisogawa Derby
The inaugural Kisogawa derby was won by Nagoya, however for defeated Gifu it was a very rewarding battle.
At last a new page in history has been written. It was not only the debut of Gifu’s first professional team, but also the first J game to be played in Gifu. To witness the first “Kisogawa Derby” with their own eyes, a long line of people waited outside the gates until eventually 10,427 spectators were rammed into Nagaragawa Stadium.
Special attention was paid to new Grampus coach Stoikovich, and whether his team could put into practice his promised “fluid and attractive” style of football.
From the start, Nagoya with a strong wind at their back overwhelmed Gifu with sharp forward movement and quick toe-to-toe transfers. Yamaguchi and Ogawa provided the axis, with a succession of quick one-touch, two-touch passes which left the opposition’s defense marking in a crooked position and therefore creating a succession of chances. Defender Yoshimoto, who gathered a pass from a left cross kick in the fifth minute, released a powerful shot but this collided with the upper post. In the sixth minute left midfielder Fukui provided to forwards Yonsen and Tamada but these also failed to result in a goal. Also in the tenth minute right-fielder Yonsen passed to a flying Ogawa in front of the goal but this was also thwarted by Gifu defense.
Nagoya’s relentless attack finally paid off in the 20th minute. From a breakout on the right side midfielder Katayama cut through into the midfield only to be taken down by defender Nasu resulting in a penalty kick. Yonsen calmly slotted the PK and finally Nagoya had some success from their pressing attack. From that point it looked like Nagoya might open the floodgates but all of a sudden, the fluid attack of Nagoya ceased. Passes were missed and the strong attack and defense lines began to crumble. On the other hand, Gifu began to find space in the middle of the field, and slowly began to mesh together their attack and defense through Kojima and Kitamura’s free running of the ball.
The game then started to change as Gifu began to play the brand of football that Nagoya had wanted to play. In the 23rd minute Shimada threatened the goal when he cut in from the right and fired a low shot. Then, again in the 31st minute, defender Kojima headed a right-corner kick which just shaved the outside of the goal post. In the 32nd minute Kojima passed to Takagi waiting on the right who produced a great cross kick although the ball couldn’t connect with a final knockout kick. Due to this aggressive Gifu attack, Nagoya were thus forced to concentrate on their defense and safety play therefore isolating their attacking weapons Fukui, Tamada and Yonsen.
After returning from the sheds 1-0 down at half-time, Gifu continued attacking though Takagi and Shimada and in the 53rd minute earned a penalty kick when Shimada was brought down in the penalty area after receiving a pass from Katagiri. It was a great chance for Gifu to claw back on level peggings but unfortunately Kojima shot the ball over the bar. From then on the game settled down with both teams creating chances, but finishing touches were lacking and the scoreboard remained motionless. In the end the game finished at 1-0, and Nagoya were able to retain their J1 pride.
However, although Nagoya won the game, their solitary goal was by PK, and they also offered Gifu a PK chance as well as other chances. If a goal had been scored against them, it wouldn’t have been unusual. Nonetheless the midfield of Fujida, Nakamura, Maginun and Yoshida all came though injury free and played together as a unit well with Ogawa, Yamaguchi, Katayama and Fukui. As time wore on though, they didn’t function as effectively and as a result the football became very messy.
After the game Stoikovich commented “The game against Gifu was a real test for us. It was a hard game, but we came out with a win, so it was a good result for us”. It was a fixed evaluation, but surely he must be anxious as to whether his team can pull together for the opening match in two weeks time.
On the other hand, although Gifu lost, after they had conceded the PK they restructured and provided some good football. Not only did they create scoring chances, but new members Shimada and Katayama played positively while rookie university graduate Kan showed he was also ready to fire. “We were able to put into practice what we learned at camp and gain some common understanding of each other” said Manager Matsunaga. For the war about to begin in the J2, it was a rewarding battle.
So this is how the Kisogawa Derby unfolded. We wonder when we will see this confrontation again next. But whether it be in the near future, or the distant future, we can only hope to see them battle together on the J1 stage sometime soon.

ついに歴史の1ページが開かれた。岐阜初のプロチームが、岐阜の地でJ公式戦を行った。初の『木曽川ダービー』を見届けようと、会場には開門前から長蛇の列が出来、最終的には10,427人もの観衆が詰め掛けた。
名古屋の注目はストイコビッチ監督が掲げる、全体が流動的に動いてボールを運んでいくサッカーが実践できるかにあった。立ち上がりから、風上に陣取った名古屋は鋭い出足からパスを小刻みに繋いで、岐阜を圧倒。山口、小川のダブルボランチが軸となり、ワンタッチ、ツータッチの少ないタッチ数でパスを繋ぐこと で、相手守備陣のマークの歪を生み出して、次々とチャンスメークしていく。5分には左からのクロスに、DF吉田が抜け出し、決定的なシュートを放つが、これはバー直撃。6分には左MF深井のチャンスメークからヨンセンと玉田が続けて狙うが、これもゴールならず。10分には右サイドのヨンセンのパスを、ゴー ル前に飛び込んだ小川が狙うが、これはDFのブロックに合う。
名古屋の猛攻が実ったのは20分のことだった。右サイドを突破した右MF片山がそのまま中に切れ込むと、寄せてきたDF奈須に倒されPKを獲得。このPK をヨンセンが冷静に決めて、押し込んでいた名古屋が先制に成功する。これで流れは一気に名古屋に傾くかと思われたが、あれほど流動的だった攻撃がぴたりと止まってしまう。ダブルボランチにボールが入らなくなり、攻守のバランスが崩れ始める。反対に岐阜にとっては、中盤にスペースが出来たことで、徐々に小 島、北村のダブルボランチが自由にボールを持てるようになり、彼らが中継点となってようやく攻守が噛み合うようになってきた。名古屋がやりたかったことを岐阜がやり始めたことにより、試合展開は徐々に変化していく。23分には右サイドから切れ込んだMF嶋田のドリブルシュートで 名古屋を脅かすと、31分には右CKからDF川島がヘッドで狙うが、これも僅かゴールの外。32分には小島のドリブルから左の高木へ展開し、高木のクロス からチャンスを生み出すが、これはシュートに結びつかなかった。攻勢に出る岐阜に対し、名古屋は徐々にDFラインが下がり始め、ボールの奪いどころが低く なり、深井や玉田、ヨンセンの2トップが孤立し、劣勢を強いられた。
1-0で迎えた後半も、ダブルボランチと高木、嶋田の両サイドを起点に攻める岐阜は、53分に左サイドをえぐった片桐のマイナスの折り返しを中央で受けた嶋田が、PA内で倒されて、PKを獲得する。同点に追いつく最大のチャンスだったが、これを小島宏が痛恨の失敗。その後試合は落ち着きをみせ、その後は両チームともチャンスこそ作るが、フィニッシュの精度を欠き、スコアを動かすことは出来ず。試合は1-0のまま終了し、名古屋がJ1の面目を保った。
しかし、名古屋は勝利したものの、得点はPKによる1点のみで、反対に相手にPKを献上したり、チャンスを作られるなど、いつ点を入れられてもおかしくな い展開だった。中盤は藤田、中村、マギヌン、吉村を怪我で欠いていたとはいえ、小川、山口、片山、深井と駒は揃っていた。だが、時間が経過するごとに機能しなくなり、全体的に連動性の乏しいサッカーとなってしまった。試合後、ストイコビッチ監督は「岐阜とのプレマッチで我々にとってもテストだった。ハードな試合となったけど、結果が付いてきたので、いい形で終われたと思う」と一定の評価を与えたが、不安要素が残ったのは否めず、開幕までの2週間で不安要素をどこまで修正できるかがポイントとなってくるだろう。
一方の岐阜は負けはしたものの、失点してからの建て直しは明るい材料となるだろう。同点にするチャンスを作ることは出来たし、新加入の嶋田、片山は積極的にチャンスに絡み、途中出場の大卒ルーキーの菅も即戦力となりうる働きを見せた。「キャンプで実践を重ねてきたことで、共通理解が深まってきた」と松永監 督も語ったように、J2を戦っていく上で、収穫ある一戦となった。
こうして幕を閉じた『木曽川ダービー』。次、この対決が実現するのはいつの日になるのか。近い将来なのか、遠い将来となるのか。願わくば、J1のステージでの実現を夢見て、両チームはそれぞれの戦いに挑んでいく。

At last a new page in history has been written. It was not only the debut of Gifu’s first professional team, but also the first J game to be played in Gifu. To witness the first “Kisogawa Derby” with their own eyes, a long line of people waited outside the gates until eventually 10,427 spectators were rammed into Nagaragawa Stadium.
Special attention was paid to new Grampus coach Stoikovich, and whether his team could put into practice his promised “fluid and attractive” style of football.
From the start, Nagoya with a strong wind at their back overwhelmed Gifu with sharp forward movement and quick toe-to-toe transfers. Yamaguchi and Ogawa provided the axis, with a succession of quick one-touch, two-touch passes which left the opposition’s defense marking in a crooked position and therefore creating a succession of chances. Defender Yoshimoto, who gathered a pass from a left cross kick in the fifth minute, released a powerful shot but this collided with the upper post. In the sixth minute left midfielder Fukui provided to forwards Yonsen and Tamada but these also failed to result in a goal. Also in the tenth minute right-fielder Yonsen passed to a flying Ogawa in front of the goal but this was also thwarted by Gifu defense.
Nagoya’s relentless attack finally paid off in the 20th minute. From a breakout on the right side midfielder Katayama cut through into the midfield only to be taken down by defender Nasu resulting in a penalty kick. Yonsen calmly slotted the PK and finally Nagoya had some success from their pressing attack. From that point it looked like Nagoya might open the floodgates but all of a sudden, the fluid attack of Nagoya ceased. Passes were missed and the strong attack and defense lines began to crumble. On the other hand, Gifu began to find space in the middle of the field, and slowly began to mesh together their attack and defense through Kojima and Kitamura’s free running of the ball.
The game then started to change as Gifu began to play the brand of football that Nagoya had wanted to play. In the 23rd minute Shimada threatened the goal when he cut in from the right and fired a low shot. Then, again in the 31st minute, defender Kojima headed a right-corner kick which just shaved the outside of the goal post. In the 32nd minute Kojima passed to Takagi waiting on the right who produced a great cross kick although the ball couldn’t connect with a final knockout kick. Due to this aggressive Gifu attack, Nagoya were thus forced to concentrate on their defense and safety play therefore isolating their attacking weapons Fukui, Tamada and Yonsen.
After returning from the sheds 1-0 down at half-time, Gifu continued attacking though Takagi and Shimada and in the 53rd minute earned a penalty kick when Shimada was brought down in the penalty area after receiving a pass from Katagiri. It was a great chance for Gifu to claw back on level peggings but unfortunately Kojima shot the ball over the bar. From then on the game settled down with both teams creating chances, but finishing touches were lacking and the scoreboard remained motionless. In the end the game finished at 1-0, and Nagoya were able to retain their J1 pride.
However, although Nagoya won the game, their solitary goal was by PK, and they also offered Gifu a PK chance as well as other chances. If a goal had been scored against them, it wouldn’t have been unusual. Nonetheless the midfield of Fujida, Nakamura, Maginun and Yoshida all came though injury free and played together as a unit well with Ogawa, Yamaguchi, Katayama and Fukui. As time wore on though, they didn’t function as effectively and as a result the football became very messy.
After the game Stoikovich commented “The game against Gifu was a real test for us. It was a hard game, but we came out with a win, so it was a good result for us”. It was a fixed evaluation, but surely he must be anxious as to whether his team can pull together for the opening match in two weeks time.
On the other hand, although Gifu lost, after they had conceded the PK they restructured and provided some good football. Not only did they create scoring chances, but new members Shimada and Katayama played positively while rookie university graduate Kan showed he was also ready to fire. “We were able to put into practice what we learned at camp and gain some common understanding of each other” said Manager Matsunaga. For the war about to begin in the J2, it was a rewarding battle.
So this is how the Kisogawa Derby unfolded. We wonder when we will see this confrontation again next. But whether it be in the near future, or the distant future, we can only hope to see them battle together on the J1 stage sometime soon.
